“Ogino Magic.” Okay! It’s been 11 years since I opened the cup

OK Financial Group (hereinafter referred to as OK) stood at the top of the professional volleyball cup competition for the first time in 11 years of its founding. Ogino Massage (Japan) coach took over the first competition in his debut three months after taking office.

OK won the championship by beating Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance 3-1 (25-23 22-25 25-23 25-20) in the men’s final of the Gumi-Dodram Cup professional volleyball tournament that ended at the Park Chung-hee Gymnasium in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is the first cup championship won in 11 years after entering the professional volleyball stage under the name Rush & Cash in the 2013-14 season.

Moreover, it was all the more meaningful as it was the only male team to overcome the sadness of not being able to win the cup competition and reach the summit after only the fourth challenge. OK reached the Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) Cup finals in 2015, 2019, and 2021, but finished runner-up on all three occasions.

Ogino, who became the first Japanese coach in men’s professional volleyball history in May, proved his leadership by reaching the top of the debut cup tournament.

Shin Ko-jin, a second-year professional player who led the championship with a personal highest score of 34 points in both the regular league and cup competitions, was selected as the MVP of the tournament by the press team.

Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, which sought its third championship in five years since the 2018 Boryeong and Jecheon competitions, had to settle for its fourth runner-up finish after 2006, 2009, and 2012. Park Sung-jin of Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, who faced Shin Shin-jin with 30 points, became the main character of his skills development, foreshadowing his performance in the regular league two months later.

The 3 sets we exchanged were the winning points. OK made a set point of 24-23 with Shin Ho-jin’s quick opening, followed by a rough ball by Park Won-bin and setter Kwak Myung-woo, who rescued the opponent Kim Jung-ho’s back attack, finished by Cha Ji-hwan, breaking the balance to set score 2-1.

In the fourth set, OK was chased 21-18 by Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance at the end of the game, but Jeon Jin-sun blocked Park Sung-jin’s attack and widened the gap to four points again, and Shin Shin Shin-jin finished the game with a strong punchback attack in the 24-20 match
